PTT Targets Q4 2026 Completion for North Carolina Transformer Plant; Shipping Set for Early 2027

RAEFORD, N.C. — Construction of Pennsylvania Transformer Technology’s new pad-mounted distribution transformer facility in Hoke County is progressing, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 and initial shipments planned for early 2027.

The 150,000-square-foot plant will expand PTT’s U.S. production footprint and is designed to strengthen the domestic supply chain for critical electrical equipment. Company officials say the facility will bring more than 200 jobs to the region.

“Upon completion, the new facility will be the world’s smartest distribution transformer facility,” said Sachin Gupta, PTT’s sales and marketing manager. “We are on schedule to start shipping orders in the first quarter of 2027, marking a major step forward in domestic transformer capacity.”

Gupta said the company is already accepting customer orders ahead of the plant’s completion, reflecting strong market demand for PTT’s next-generation manufacturing capabilities.

He added that the facility represents more than an increase in capacity.

“Our investment is not just about scaling production — it’s about elevating the customer experience. The facility is an investment in our customers’ long-term success,” Gupta said.

Advanced Smart Manufacturing Drives Efficient, High-Reliability Transformers

PTT, a U.S.-based manufacturer, produces custom-engineered pad-mounted distribution transformers for utility, commercial, industrial, data center, battery storage and renewable energy applications. The company’s medium-voltage transformers are designed for power distribution systems requiring high efficiency, compliance with ANSI and IEEE standards, and long-term reliability.

“The new Hoke County plant will incorporate advanced robotics, IoT-enabled machinery and smart factory systems to improve production speed, precision and scalability,” said Nitin Nayak, head of operations and supply chain for the distribution transformer line.

He said real-time data analytics will support manufacturing from core cutting through final testing, reducing lead times and enhancing product reliability.

Smart Factory Design Enables Flexible, High-Capacity Transformer Solutions

“Built on the principles of lean manufacturing and Industry 4.0, the factory uses closed-loop integrations to enable a continuous two-way flow of data, allowing real-time monitoring and adjustments to operational parameters,” Nayak said.

PTT’s three-phase pad-mounted distribution transformers are available in a wide range of kVA ratings and voltage classes to support large electrical loads and mission-critical infrastructure. The company offers units ranging from 500 kVA to 7,500 kVA, with voltage levels up to 46 kV.

Customers can select copper or aluminum windings, as well as Type II mineral oil or natural ester insulating fluids, allowing tailored solutions that balance efficiency, durability and sustainability requirements.

The transformers are custom-engineered to meet strict utility and project specifications and are designed for demanding applications, including solar, wind, battery storage, data centers and industrial operations.

In addition to its Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, headquarters, which produces high-performance transformers from 50 MVA to 750 MVA and up to 765 kV, PTT operates a small- and medium-power transformer facility in Raeford.

New Plant Boosts U.S. Grid Reliability and Transformer Supply

The new plant will significantly expand the company’s regional manufacturing capacity while supporting broader efforts to strengthen U.S. energy infrastructure and grid reliability.

With construction advancing toward its targeted fourth-quarter 2026 completion, company officials say PTT remains focused on meeting growing demand for domestically produced distribution transformers, with first shipments expected in early 2027.
